Mumford & Sons Close One ‘Chapter,’ Open Another

Mumford & Sons return to the road come August with new dates as well as rescheduled shows that were postponed due to the British folk-rock group’s bass player undergoing surgery for a blood clot on his brain.  “The Full English” North American tour commences in Toronto.

Saying he wasn’t feeling well, bassist Ted Dwane entered a hospital earlier this month. Doctors performed emergency surgery after a scan indicated he had a blood clot on his brain.

Proclaiming the abrupt halt in performing was the closing “of but one chapter” in the band’s book of “North American Tour Travels 2013,” Mumford & Sons pushed some shows to late summer/early fall and canceled festival gigs such as Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tenn., and Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

But that doesn’t mean the band has nixed all summer dates.  Mumford & Sons is still scheduled to play England’s Glastonbury Festival June 30 Scotland’s T In The Park July 12 and the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan July 28.  The group will also perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago Aug. 3 and the Osheaga Festival in Montreal Aug. 4.

Now the group has rescheduled its non-festival appearances after adding gigs for August and September, calling the new dates the “Full English Tour” and including Bear’s Den and The Vaccines.

As to Dwane’s post-surgery recovery, the band posted a message on its website saying he’s “wearing his newly acquired shaven-headed hairstyle with enviable levels of suave.”
